What has nature got to do with stress?
Exposure to nature can lower your stress levels. A research study carried out in 2019 looked at nature experiences and stress.
Levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, were taken before and after nature visits.
The people involved in the study were also instructed not to exercise beforehand and to avoid unrelated stimuli like social media, phone calls, conversations, and reading.
Fact not fiction!
Spending at least 20 to 30 minutes in a nature setting was associated with a decrease in cortisol levels!
It’s incredible to think that something that we understand and can feel ourselves can be quantified and supported by science.
Need some ideas?
Speaking of nature, you will have great places to explore and things to do in my home county Sligo. We have put together an article with some places to see and things to do if you are thinking of staying in sligo this summer. Great scenery, walks, beaches, places to eat and some lovely new cafes!

Do you love conversations about travel?
I do! Staycations and things to do, people coming together for a drink, a chat, a coffee or an activity. It really does play such a major role in our mental health and overall wellbeing. My recommendations around breaks is to try and take in some nature, movement and nourishing food.
